"From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”)."

Jesus knew about this, He knew that He had to bear the sins of the world and die on the cross for us. Yet He still chose to die for us. This was the point where He had to leave the presence of God in order to die for our sins. And how scary to leave His presence, I can't imagine. He did it just for us.
